{Favorite Brands} Not Soap, Radio

Leave it to BirchBox to create an EveryGirl affordable luxuries box that included this amazingly lemon scented soap. The soap was so lemony that it was like my puff magically transformed into a lemon and my worries melted away. Not to mention the tongue and cheek label had me giggling like a mad woman as I soaped up.

I had to know more about the tongue and cheek make a girl giggle like crazy in the shower labels. Turns out that Not Soap, Radio is a good old home grown company that is the brain child of sisters, Laura Cabot and Suzanne Cabot. Laura and Suzanne have created an aromatherapeutic line of products that are affordable and deliciously scented. The Not Soap, Radio product line is free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates and are never tested on animals. Which you totally know is an A+ in my book, I don’t do chemicals nor do I support animal testing.

Soap is no longer getting the short end of the stick and your shower has just become the hottest spot in town. Well at least my shower is the hottest spot in town. You can ask the muppet like dog, he will vouch for me as he has to put up with my giggling. I have very sensitive skin and I have to be very careful with the soaps that I use as many ingredients can trigger an auto-inflammatory response. No one likes red splotchy skin and it always makes me second guess my outfit. I thought I was doomed to a life of boring unscented bar soaps. Dropping the soap and slipping is for the birds. That all changed the day my August BirchBox showed up on my doorstep and I haven’t looked back.

I traded in my bar and grabbed Not Soap, Radio. My skin, it sent me a thank you note. I bet your body wash doesn’t make you giggle, I know mine does. Oh and my body wash gives me advice and positive affirmations. Each formula is cleverly crafted and scented, each scent is designed to boost your overall sense of well being. How amazing is that!? A body wash that improves your well being all while cleaning you – now that is what I call multitasking!

Let’s talk about Not Soap, Radio!

Lemons
When life gives you one too many lemons (and you’ve misplaced your happy place…).™
—————————> Joy inducing, if my happy place had a scent this would be it. I am the girl who goes to IKEA and buys a pallet of the lemon scented candles. I love lemon scented things. The scent of lemon reminds me of home and it makes me happy. This body wash definitely puts a bright spot in my day. You need to buy this! Go to: http://www.notsoapradio.com
Image
Liquid Freud (when you need to turn up the volume on your inner voice of reason).™
————————-> This wash is scented with coconut milk with a dash of mango and it is infused with St. John’s Wort for an immediate mood boost. This is the first full-sized Not Soap, Radio product I purchased and it is amazing. I love the scent, it reminds me of tropical beaches, cabana boys, and tiki drinks. If you live in the frigid north then this is a staple for your shower. Go buy it here: http://www.notsoapradio.com I will be checking your shower to make sure your Liquid Freud is front and center.

The Phoenix (when you need to rise from the ashes–yet again).™
———————————>Instant optimism in a bottle! I love plums almost as much as I love lemons. I was intrigued by the scent description: persimmon plum infused with optimism-promoting Bergamot. Oooo that sounds like a bottle full of optimistic nice and I needed it in my life. It smells so good. I catch myself popping the top off and just taking a whiff when I need a little boost. Trust me – it’s that good! You need a boost in your life, go get a boost and rise from the ashes at http://www.notsoapradio.com

Lotion
Not Soap, Radio Original Hand/Body Lotions TO GO
———————————> Not Soap, Radio’s amusing and delicious scents in a portable pocket sized bottle. I ordered this set because I could not make up my mind and I wanted to try them all. I needed all of the Not Soap, Radio scents in my life and this affordable set did the trick. Holidays are coming and you need a cute little lotion for your purse. Go get it at http://www.notsoapradio.com

I am a Not Soap, Radio fan girl for life. Laura and Suzanne believe in there brand and if you tweet @notsoapradio they will be the ones responding to you. How do I know? They responded to my tweet the other day and I about died with excitement! I told the lady next to me on the bus “OMG Not Soap, Radio just responded to my tweet and they re-tweeted me.” She just looked at me like I was nuts and snarled. I hands down love this brand and I cannot wait to try every single product in the line. Go on now, go get yourself your own Not Soap, Radio. I promise it will change the way you look at showering and leave you feeling dandy!

{Favorite Brands} theBalm.com

theBalmI have been reading reviews about this wondrous San Francisco based brand that believes makeup and skin care products should be wholesome and cute. Cute is an understatement, as the packaging is to die for cute. theBalm.com was the brain child of Marissa Shipman, in 2004 she created a plan and launched her fabulous brand of cosmetics and skin care products. theBalm offers quick solutions and great products at a fabulous price point.

Many women have drawers of makeup, serums, lotions an potions, but really how many of those do you actually use? Probably not as many as you think you do. Marissa knew that she only needed a few staple items and she had no doubt that we needed the same staples in our makeup drawer. Her cleverly named and fabulously packaged products are the staple of her brand. A brand that you will fall in love with, just like I have.

A few weeks ago theBalm.com had a flash 50% off sale and I knew that I had to get on that train. The sale was to last for only 2 hours and the goal was to crash the new server. We completely succeeded and it crashed, but not for long with a little persistence I was able to get my order through. I should mention that I received a theBalm sample in my April BirchBox, which prompted me to buy the full-sized product. Thou I didn’t purchase How Bout’ Them Apples directly from theBalm.com I am going to included it in this review.

“Hey! What did you order from theBalm.com?” Oh, I am so glad you asked, let’s find out!

How Bout’ Them Apples – Lip and Cheek Pallet (ordered from birchbox.com): is a multi-functioning lip and cheek cream palette.
———————-> I hands down love this pallet, the colors are perfect. Not to mention the packaging is too stinking cute for its own good. I love the fact that the color lasts a really long time, bonus it leaves my lips feeling soft. No one likes dried lips, but every one loves a good apple. This cute little pallet will set you back $32.00. Which is a steal because you are getting six amazing duel used colors in one handy-dandy pallet.
theBalm out of the box

White Tea Lavender Foaming Face Cleanser – for all skin types: is soothing and non-drying. Soy Proteins nourish by providing depleted skin with a rich source of Amino Acids and Peptides. Paraben-free, Synthetic Dye-free, Phthalate-free, Cruelty-free & Made in the USA.
——————–> I received my order on Saturday and I have been using the cleanser since I ripped the package open. I love the calming scent of lavender and that this cleanser leaves nothing behind. As in nothing, no makeup, no dirt, no oil, just good clean skin. This really great cleanser will set you back $19.50. I am truly in love with it, who knew a human could be in love with a cleanser. I sure didn’t.

Peppermint Hydrating Face Moisturizer – For Normal to Dry Skin: feels cool and revitalizing as it works to retain skin’s natural moisture. Lightweight botanical extracts add needed hydration and nourishment to dry areas. Paraben-free, Synthetic Dye-free, Phthalate-free, Cruelty-free & Made in the USA.
———————-> Where has this moisturizer been all my life? My skin after four uses has never been this soft. I love that the moisturizer is light and not gloopy, it soaks in quickly and leaves behind soft refreshed skin. I am now a convert and will never go back to my old Serious Skin Care moisturizer. If you want to become a convert this amazing moisturizer will set you back $18.00 Come on you know you want to convert, take the plunge and spend the 18 big ones on one amazing moisturizer.

What can I say, I am wowed by theBalm.com and I am now a life long customer. If you want to have a few fabulous cosmetics and skin care products in your draw give thebalm.com a try. You will be glad that you did.

{Freshpet} The Muppet Like Dog Goes Fresh

FreshpetHave you ever strolled down the pet food isle and wondered “why is there a refrigerated case here?” I know I’ve wondered that. Have you ever peeked inside the case and mumbled to yourself “I am not gonna put dog food in my refrigerator next to my food?” Who on earth would buy dog food that needs to be refrigerated and who would pay that price for such a small bag? These are questions I asked myself as I stood in front of the Freshpet case in the dog food isle at Wal*Mart. Yes, I shop at Wal*Mart, but that is besides the point.

I am a mom to a muppet like dog and I want what is best for him. His heath and life are very important to me. I buy him the best and settle for nothing less. I mean I drove around for hours on end during the big power outage last summer just so my little guy could have air conditioning and hang his head out the window. My dog literally almost goes every where I go. My family treats him like he is a child, my Mama tells people “my grandson has four legs and a tail.’ It’s true Cullen has a tail and four very fury legs. With dog treats on my list I headed down the isle and started to Google Freshpet.

I liked what I was reading and started to see the light, that fresh truly was better. Freshpet is packed with vitamins and proteins. Freshpet meals offer fresh meats, poultry, and vegetables that are from local farms. The Freshpet team gently cooks the meals at lower temperatures, so vital nutrients that go into Freshpet foods actually stay in. As a result, Freshpet is 1/3 less processed than leading dry foods. That’s a winning recipe for pets everywhere.

97% of Freshpet ingredients come from the USA and Canada. Freshpet does their best to source locally whenever possible. No Freshpet ingredients come from China. Wooho! No ingredients from China, that right there is what sold me on Freshpet. I do my best to steer away from all dog food/treat products that are manufactured in China. That big story a few years back about arsenic in dog food and treats manufactured in China still scares me. I love my dog to much to expose him to products from China. (I have nothing against China, they are nice folks, just they make bad products for dogs)

Cullen has been eating fresh pet since July and I cannot begin to describe the difference it has made in his life. The muppet’s fur is shinny, he has more energy, his eyes are brighter and he can’t get enough of Freshpet in his bowl. Its kind of funny when Cullen is hungry he will go and sit in front of the fridge and look up at me with his big brown eyes. He gets so excited when the door opens, he practically eats the food right out of the scoop, and the same goes for the treats. Feeding time has become very entertaining as the muppet like dog gets so excited for Freshpet.

“What Freshpet Products does Cullen like best?” Oh, I am so glad you asked! Let’s find out!

Freshpet Dog Joy Beef Treats: these bite sized treats are made in he USA from all natural beef that is slow cooked to perfection for that BBQ smell.
———————> The muppet like dog loves these things! I finally have him weaned from his beloved Pupperonis and Dog Joy Beef treats have taken there place.

Freshpet Select Roasted Meals With Carrots & Spinach: Made of tender pieces of fresh chicken accented with carrots and spinach.
——————-> The muppet like dog gives Frespet Select Roasted meals four paws. He cannot get enough of this food. When I was feeding him dry dog food it would take him a week to eat a bowl full of food. It would break my heart to always see a full bowl of food. I would often have to throw it away for fear that it had gone stale or something. I no longer have that problem, he literally licks his bowl clean at mealtimes.

Freshpet has a great line of products for all of your dog’s and cat’s nutritional needs. Freshpet has a great website with all of the information and reviews that you need to become a believer. To find out more about Freshpet please head on over to http://m.freshpet.com to find out if Freshpet is right for your four legged friend.

{UmCheeky} November Underwear Box (Yup, we are going there!)

UmCheeky November

UmCheeky November

Your underwear drawer called…… It wants something pretty!

A girl has to be prepared and ready for anything life throws her way. So she mise well do it in pretty underwear.

Some people call it underwear, others call them drawers, under garments, pants, panties, and lingerie. No matter what you call them, they are simply “the barrier between your vagina and your jeans,” hey no one wants to be rubbed the wrong way. Then again many celebrities seem to brave it and go without their drawers. I prefer to call them underroos as in when you wear them you are certain to have a rootastic day! Then again I think its funny that my mail carrier has no idea that he is stuffing panties in my box!

All jokes aside let’s get down to the brass tax. UmCheeky is run by a husband wife team out of New York City. He is a former attorney who handles all of the customer service and she makes sure that the panties are cute. UmCheeky has a size range that will cover every booty on the planet from XS to XXL, you can’t go wrong with this brand. The price is pretty darn sweet too, right now they are running a special 2 pairs for $6 when you use code FALL13.

I placed my order on Thursday November 14th, 2013 and received a shipping confirmation on the 15th, and had my panties in my mail box on the 18th. That is super fast shipping ladies. I was super excited to see the purple envelope in my mail box and I couldn’t wait to rip it open. Once opened I found a nicely wrapped package in purple tissue paper and super soft adorable panties inside. I washed them tonight and cannot wait to wear my first pair tomorrow. I have no doubt that they will be as comfortable as they feel and that they will not ride up. No one likes panties that ride up, that is the worst thing ever, that and leggings as pants with an extremely noticeable VPL. Leggings as pants should be banned on all seven continents.

I know you want to get 2 pairs of very pretty panties, here is how:
Visit http://www.umcheeky.com, double-check the size chart, select your size, order and be sure to enter code FALL13 to get the 2 pairs for $6. Congratulations, you just signed yourself up for some really great underwear! Your panty drawer is going to thank you!

{Julep Maven} Right At Home, November 2013

Right At Home ~ November Modern Beauty Box with add-ons

Right At Home ~ November Modern Beauty Box with add-ons

I admit, I get pretty darn excited when I see an email from Julep in my inbox. The email is always the same, it explains the current theme and informs me that the maven selection window is now open. I love the fact that you can see what all of the boxes contain. That way you can either skip the month or pick a different style profile box. Each box contains 2 polishes along with one full-sized beauty item, every box that is except for the modern beauty box which contains two (yes I said two) full-sized beauty products. Julep does have a polish only option where you will receive three pretty polishes each month.

The theme for November is “Right at home” a time to cozy up. The colors for this month capture the notes of fall perfectly. The sneak peek email got me really excited, I am a gloss kind of girl and Julep announced that they were coming out with a new gloss. A gloss that would be included in the November Maven box.

So What did I get in my November Modern Beauty Maven Box? That’s a great question! I am so glad you asked!

November Modern Beauty – Right At Home

Blank Canvas Plumping Lip Primer
A multi-tasking marvel that plumps, moisturizes, and preps lips for flawless color application. The tingle tells you it’s working. The ongoing hydration and smoothing tell you it’s still working. Color: Pale Pink.
What did I think? I gave this product a try on Friday night and it did exactly what they claimed.
My lips tingled, they appeared a little fuller, and they stayed hydrated all
night.

Julep Lip Gloss – In Timeless
Unstoppable shine, luscious hydration. Color: Sheer Nude
What did I think? I am a gloss girl and I have tried hundreds of glosses in my day. Julep did a
great job developing the gloss. The gloss is a little on the thick side, yet
shiny, and it covered nicely. The color stood up and kept my lips hydrated for
hours.

**Bonus Item: A packet of Luxe Repair Skin Serum
A rejuvenating serum delivers deep hydration and essential nutrients to help rebuild skin structure from the inside out—for a noticeable difference in the way your skin looks and feels. Designed for all skin types, Luxe Repair can be used as a daily treatment or moisturizer for face, hands, or body.
What did I think? I admit, I was so excited about the gloss that I forgot the packet was in the box.
I haven’t tried it yet, when do I will let you know my thoughts.

I fell in love with a few of the polish colors, but I really wanted the gloss and lip primer so I kept with my style profile and chose a few add-ons. With every purchase you make on julep.com you earn Jules which are points you can use towards your purchases. I used my Jules again this month and got one of my add-ons for free. I decided to add-on Brielle which is a deep autumn orange crème and Aisha a wildberry purple crème. I cracked open Brielle on Friday night and I have yet to decide if I am a fan of the color. It looked pretty on the website, however in person it seems more like a rust than an autumn orange. The quality and pigment of the polish is great, it goes on easy and covers like a dream.

Once again Julep has put together a beautiful box with great products and I cannot wait to see what the next box will hold.

Julep Maven is a $19.99/month monthly nail polish & Beauty box subscription service. Each box features over $40.00 worth of never before released polishes, cutting edge treatments, and a bonus sample sized product. PLUS when you are a Maven you get free shipping and 20% off of all of the products at http://www.julep.com.

Becoming a Maven is easy and each box is put together like a beautiful present. I love being a Julep Maven and I want you to get in on the fun too! Use code “FREEBOX” to get your first box for only $3.99 (Shipping charges).

{Love With Food} Scary Delicious October

October

Late one night I was cruising the internet and reading box reviews. There are ladies who dedicate their entire blog to subscription boxes. I can only imagine that their mail boxes are bursting with fun. Their blogs have become a good resource and provide insight on which subscription programs are awesome and what I call “try worthy.” One particular blogger caught my eye with her Love With Food Box review. The products looked fun and interesting. I love trying new foods and ingredients, plus how could I say no to a practically free box. I used a promo code that allowed me to get my first box for only $2. So at 2am I signed myself up and waited for my box to arrive.

Love With Food is a discovery box that is chalked full of new organic, all-natural snacks for $12.00 per month.
The best part about Love With Food is that for every box sold they will donate a meal to several food banks such as the Feeding America Network and Share Our Strength – No Kid Hungry. Join us to help end childhood hunger one meal at a time! It is a total win win, you get tasty snacks for your belly and you get to help put food in a hungry child’s belly. That is what sold me on Love With Food, I knew I needed to sign up and get the box so I to could help feed a hungry child.

So what was in my Scary Delicious Love With Food Box? Why, that is an awesome question! Let’s find out!

Scary Delicious October

***Light crispy Italian waffle cookies in a 100 calorie pack

*Glee Gum – Triple Berry from Verve Inc.

*Organic Hard Candies from Torie and Howard

*Pixo Pearls from Vinaigerie Gingras

*Happy Squeeze from Happy Family
*** Blueberry, apple, and purple carrot flavor, this has Sophia’s name written all over it.

{Birch Box} – Beauty Buzz October

October
Well done Birch Box, you finally hit the nail on the head this month. Normally the box will contain one or two products that are what I consider “try worthy.” This month is a different story, I want to try every product in the box, well except maybe the chap stick and curl keeper. I am a Bert’s Bees kind of girl who does not tolerate other chap sticks well and I am pretty darn dedicated to my current for curly hair care products.

So what was inside my beauty buzz box? That’s a great question. Let’s find out!

October’s Beauty Buzz Box

*Avene – Cleanance Gel Soapless Cleanser – Full size $20.00
*** The pH-balanced wash whisks away impurities with calming French spring water

{What I thought of the product} – I have used the cleanser a few times this week and sadly I am not a fan. The cleanser made my face feel very dry and stiff after use. I give this product a thumbs down and will stick with my drug store brand cleanser.

*Curly Hair Solutions – Curl Keeper – Full size $10.00
*** A water-based, weightless serum that keeps curls shiny, defined, and frizz fee
I have very curly hair and I am very skeptical of products that promise to keep my curls frizz free. I have yet to try the sample and I don’t think I will. If you have curly hair like me, then you most likely have a brand that you stick to and worship, straying from that brand is frowned upon in at least 28 countries.

*DDF – Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer Moisturizing Serum – Full size $85.00
*** This high-tech serum minimizes pores and softens fine lines with advanced amino peptides
{What I thought of the product} – First off, Birch Box why do you keep on sending my anti-aging products? Its getting a little old, I am only 30 years old and wrinkles are non-existent at the moment. Anyways I did try the serum and was very impressed by it. The serum is very light, goes on easy, is not heavy or greasy, and left my skin soft. I could see myself using this product on a regular basis, well that is if it weren’t for the $85.00 price tag. I am a girl on a budget and this product is definitely out of my price point.

*theBalm Cosmetics – Stainiac in Beauty Queen – Full size $17.00
*** A stain that gives cheeks and lip a sheer rosy tint.
{What I thought of the product} – I am not a blush kind of girl so I would never use this product on my cheeks. However my lips are a different story. The stain worked just like they claimed, it gave my lips a rosy hue and lasted for most of the day, even with multiple chap stick application. Again I am a girl on a budget so I can’t justify $17.00 for one lip product.

**Birch Box Find**
Chap Stick Hydration Lock in Vanilla Creme

All in all I was pretty happy with my Birch Box this month and I am actually looking forward to next months box.

Birch Box is a beauty and lifestyle subscription box program that costs $10.00 per month. For every box ordered or every $10 spent in their shop you can earn 10 points. 100 points will get you a free birch box or $10 towards a purchase in the shop at birchbox.com. I know you’ve got friends so why not refer those friends to Birch box and earn a few points for doing so. If you would like to learn more and get a Birch Box of your very own go to http://www.birchbox.com for more information.

{Julep Maven} September’s Box

September Julep

A few months ago I took the bait and singed up to become a Julep Maven. I had nothing to lose and the website promised that I could cancel at anytime. That was four boxes ago and I have no plans on canceling anytime soon. I absolutely love the quality of the nail polish and skincare products. Bonus, the products, including the nail polish are chemical free. You know how I feel about chemicals, so it is a win win in my book.

September’s theme is Cityscape, each nail color is inspired by an important city in the fashion world. Since I wasn’t in need of any new nail colors, I decided to go with the Modern beauty box which includes two full sized products. I was pretty excited for the month of September the sneak peek email said a face wash would be involved and I couldn’t wait to get my little hands on it.

September’s Modern Beauty box included:

Bare Face Cleansing Oil:
*The lightweight, antioxidant-rich cleanser gently and thoroughly dissolves makeup, dirt, and excess oil without over-drying skin, then rinses clean with no oily residue. Recommended for all skin types. The formula includes grapeseed oil, a natural antioxidant that protects skin from harmful free radicals, and olive oil, a natural source of vitamin E that softens and helps prevent post-cleansing dehydration.

I used the cleanser last night and this morning. I hands down love it, I did not feel the need to apply lotion to my skin afterwards. My skin did not feel dry after use, it was soft and clean. I will definitely be ordering a few bottles of the cleanser.

Blank Canvas Mattifying Face Primer:
*This age-defying primer creates a smooth, even canvas for gorgeous makeup that lasts all day. It absorbs shine, brightens skin, and locks in moisture for 24 hours

I have yet to try this as its the weekend and I rarely wear makeup on the weekends. I can’t wait to give it a go on Tuesday morning. I have no doubt that it will be awesome.

This months bonus product was a Julep nail polish remover wipe.

{Julep Maven} August Box

August Maven2
The 20th day of the month has become one of my favorite days. Why? Julep sends me an email telling me that its time to pick my Maven box for the next month. I can either stick with what my style profile has or I can choose a box from a different style profile. For August I decided to stick with the Classic with a Twist box, the nail colors were really pretty and I was curious to try the double step stick.
August Maven
The August Classic with a Twist Box included:
A packet of Forget Me Not Seeds.
Two pretty nail polishes:
*Sylvia – Classic with a Twist: Lilac purple crème
*Veronica – Classic with a Twist: Modern mauve crème
Doublestep Foot Treatment and Friction Stick:
*This no-mess shea butter treatment nourishes and moisturizes feet, stimulates circulation, and prevents blisters.

Since I am not a fan of purple nail polish I decided to gift it to my dear coworker Renae. Renae loved the shade of purple and couldn’t wait to use it. I painted my toes with Veronica the same night I got the box, I absolutely hands down love this shade of mauve. The Doublestep friction stick is a gift from the Gods! Goodbye blisters, Hello pretty feet! Once again I am pleasantly pleased with my Maven box, Julep has become one of my favorite companies.

In just a few minutes you can become a Julep Maven to. Just visit http://www.julep.com and complete your style profile. Use the code FREEBOX, to only pay shipping on your introductory box. Which means you will get $20.00 worth of products for $4.00, that’s an incredible deal if you ask me. Warning, once you Maven you will do it again and again.

{Julep Maven} July’s Box

July Julep Box

Late one night I noticed that my friend Kate had posted a link about getting a free starter kit from Julep.com, all I had to do was pay $3.99 for shipping. I thought what the heck its only $3.99 and if I don’t like it I can cancel the subscription. The website claims its an easy cancelation process or I can choose to skip a month. With that knowledge in mind I completed my style profile and discovered that I was a modern beauty.

The modern beauty box gets you two full sized products and a bonus product each month. I opted to chose a different style profile for my starter kit, as I was in need of some summery nail polish. For my started kit I selected classic with a twist and was delighted by the quality of the polish and hand scrub. July’s options did not disappoint.

July’s theme is “The California Coast” and the modern beauty box products included a full sized Sea Salt Texture Spray for hair and Beach Tonic dry body oil mist. Both products smell amazing and make me feel like I just walked off the California coast. The Sea salt texture spray does not weigh my curly hair down and it does not feel sticky to the touch. The Beach Tonic oil spray is light and dries quickly, leaving you with soft ocean kissed skin. The bonus product is Green Tea Facial Blotting papers, I have yet to try them.

I am in love with Julep and I am so glad I became a Maven. For $19.99 a month I get a box of lovely products shipped to my door step. If you do not like what’s in your style’s box you can switch to another profile and receive a different box that month or you can constantly switch it up from month to month. I am going to stick with the modern beauty box, as I feel that its the best value.

If you would like to give Julep a try and become a maven. You can use the code FREEBOX to get your first box for free (only pay $4 shipping) just go to http://www.julep.com and enter the code at checkout.

I hope you will enjoy the Maven box just as much as I do.
